How much do I feed? The general rule of thumb is that you will feed 2-3% of your pet's body weight per day. From there, you'll just want to adjust according to how your pet responds. If it starts gaining weight, you'll want to cut back. If it loses weight, you'll want to increase the quantity. Back to TopI'm concerned about having the responsibility of my pets nutrition. How do I know that I'm doing it right?First of all, this is a very normal concern. Many people have relied upon the bag of kibble that they feed to provide all of their pets nutrition and counted on it to do so. The thought of taking that responsibility on themselves can be rather intimidating. There are a few basic concepts that you'll want to follow Back to TopIsn't it expensive to feed a raw diet?Actually, when compared to feeding a high quality kibble product, it really isn't. Very similar to food for people, the more you are willing to do yourself the less costly it is, the more convenient it is, the less economical it is. We have several customers who feed raw for $1/lb. or less. Back to TopWhat's the best way to get started? There are many ways to get started. One good option is to start with a simple product line like the Grandad's products. Chicken or turkey are generally good starting points. Often people start with one raw meal per day and start with something like chicken necks, chicken backs, or turkey necks. If you decide to go completely raw to start, the prepared mixes are appropriate. Then you make sure that you are getting the right mix of meat, bone, organ meat and vegetables. As you learn more, you can take on more of the processing yourself if you like or stick with the convenience of the prepared meals. Back to TopCan I mix raw and kibble?Often times people will start their pets diet change by feeding one kibble meal each day and one raw meal each day. One word of caution though, it's not a good idea to mix raw and kibble in the same meal. Raw food processes through the system more quickly than kibble. If you mix them, it forces the raw to stay in your pets system longer than it would naturally. It's better to let your pet's body handle each separately.
